The Challenge: Confronting Gender Inequality and Empowering Women in Haiti
Haiti, a nation defined by resilience and strength, continues to struggle with deep-rooted gender inequality that limits progress and opportunity. Nearly half of Haiti’s population, its women and girls, remain constrained by societal barriers that restrict access to education, leadership, and financial independence. Gender-based violence (GBV) remains one of the most pressing human rights issues in Haiti. Studies show that one in three Haitian women between ages 15 and 49 has experienced physical or sexual violence. Due to stigma, fear, and weak legal protection, many cases go unreported. This cycle of silence hinders women’s participation in education, work, and leadership. Womenful Voice advocates for stronger protection systems, awareness campaigns, and community education to end GBV and promote safety and dignity for all women.
When women are denied education, safety, and leadership opportunities, Haiti loses out on half its potential. Empowered women are the foundation of progress, innovation, and stability. Through mentorship, leadership training, and confidence-building programs, Womenful Voice supports Haitian women to become decision-makers and changemakers; unlocking the country’s social and economic growth.
